The island of Delos, the legendary birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, a religious and financial center of Greece for centuries and meeting place of the Delian league. Once a place of tens of thousands of people, multistory buildings, marble temples, and a colossal statue of Apollo; a series of brutal assaults and changes in trade routes led to it becoming effectively abandoned by the end of the 1st century BC. Centuries of weathering and looting have taken their toll, but it’s estimated 80% of the ruins are still buried beneath the hills.

The well in the center of this room still gives clean water. The ledges in the wall would have held oil lamps.
